ITINERARY

Tuesday, September 1st

Today begins our quilting adventure with an overnight flight from the United States to Munich, Germany. During our evening flight, dinner will be served on-board the plane. D

Wednesday, September 2nd

This morning we will be served a breakfast snack on-board the plane before our arrival into the Munich Airport. Upon arrival, we will collect our luggage, pass through customs and be met by our motor coach driver who will take us to the charming, picturesque town of RUHPOLDING, Bavaria. This ride will take us approximately 3.5 hours, and we will be stopping for a lunch along the way. Upon arrival in Ruhpolding we will check into our charming four-star hotel, the Hotel Zur Post (www.Hotel-Post-Rhupolding.de). We will take a leisurely stroll through this Hansel and Gretel-like village and become acquainted with our local surroundings. Tonight, we will all enjoy a “welcome dinner” at the hotel hosted by the delightful Eleanor Burns and your tour escort, Jim West. There will be an opportunity to meet everyone who is participating on our tour and find out more about them and what lies ahead for us during the tour. B, D

Thursday, September 3rd

This morning, following breakfast, we board our motor coach and drive to Lake Chiemsee, home to the Herrenchiemsee Castle. This castle was built by King Ludwig II, whose intent was to duplicate an exact replica of the Palace of Versailles in France. Unfortunately, funds ran out and he was only able to build the central portion of the castle. Nonetheless, this extraordinary place is quite impressive. There will be an opportunity to enjoy lunch on your own before we will drive back to Ruhpolding in the middle of the afternoon. The evening is free for you to enjoy on your own. B

Friday, September 4th

Following an early breakfast this morning, we will drive to the beautiful city of SALZBURG. We will be met by a local guide who will provide an informative sightseeing tour, which includes Mozart’s birthplace and familiar locations from the movie “The Sound of Music.” There will be time for shopping in many of the special boutique shops, art galleries and Austrian chocolate stores, as you enjoy a leisurely afternoon on your own. We will drive back to Ruhpolding in the early evening and enjoy dinner at our hotel. B, D

Saturday, September 5th

This morning, following breakfast, we will drive to the town of BERCHTESGADEN. Here we will take a tour of the “Eagle’s Nest,” the mountain-top teahouse getaway used by Adolf Hitler. Don’t forget to bring your cameras, because we’ll see spectacular views of the Bavarian Alps, some of the best on our entire trip. We’ll return back to Ruhpolding later in the day. Tonight, following dinner, Eleanor will provide a special lecture/class for everyone, and we will meet local quilter’s for a special Show & Tell. B, D

Sunday, September 6th

Today is a full day of leisure. Our hotel has a wonderful spa area, so maybe you’ll enjoy a relaxing swim or a massage from one of the staff. There are opportunities to hike into the surrounding mountains or simply make a day of shopping and relaxing. We are offering a special “optional tour” for anyone who would like to visit one of the nearby towns. Whatever you decide to do, enjoy this special day in Bavaria. B

Monday, September 7th

Today, following breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and drive to the charming village of OBERAMMERGAU, located south of MUNICH. This is the stage for the world-famous Passion Play. The story dates back to the year 1633 when the black plague snatched away most of the inhabitants of this tiny mountain village. The residents took an oath they would stage a performance of the ‘Passion of Christ’ every ten years if the plague vanished. And it did. From 1634, the residents of Oberammergau have fulfilled their promise and have performed the Passion Play every ten years right up to the present day. There will be time to shop at the special wood carving shops, take a leisurely stroll through the village and see the hand-painted frescos on the buildings and homes, enjoy a delightful lunch on our own or tour the Passion Play House. Later in the afternoon, we will board our motor coach and drive to our hotel, located in the central part of MUNICH. The remainder of the evening is at your leisure. B

Tuesday, September 8th

In the morning, following breakfast, we will begin our day with a Panoramic tour of the city of Munich, and a local guide will join us to explain all the exciting things we wills see on our morning tour. The afternoon and evening are free for you to enjoy on your own. B

Wednesday, September 9th

Today, following breakfast, we will visit one of the most photographed structures in all of Germany, Neuschwanstein Castle, once the residence of King Ludwig II. This famous Castle was the model used to build Cinderella’s Castle at Disneyland. Our drive will take us through beautiful landscapes of Germany, and we’ll stop along the way for photographs. We will return back to our hotel later in the afternoon. Tonight we will all enjoy a “farewell dinner” in one of the local restaurants in town and recap the exciting time we shared together on this quilting adventure in Germany, Bavaria and Austria. B, D

Thursday, September 10th

This morning, following breakfast, we will pack our luggage and say goodbye to Munich, as we drive to the Munich Airport for our flight back to the United States. Lunch will be served onboard the plane. B, L
